Group Members: Airyanna Eason & Matthew Terrell (Fall 2024 M.ARCH, IIT)

is a 28-story mixed-use building designed specifically to meet the needs of theatrical performers and foster a vibrant creative community. This project integrates short-term and long-term residential spaces with performance and rehearsal areas, creating a multifunctional environment that supports both living and artistic pursuits.

The design centers around the primary users—theatrical performers—offering a unique blend of living and creative spaces. Hostel accommodations on lower levels feature varied layouts to cater to a range of needs, from shared spaces for collaborative experiences to private arrangements for more personalized stays. Above the hostel, housing units are thoughtfully tailored to the lifestyles of performers, with efficient layouts and close access to rehearsal and performance facilities.

The tower incorporates theatrical studios strategically placed throughout, fostering convenience and accessibility for residents. Larger performance venues include a full-scale theater, a rooftop stage with sweeping city views, and a street-level performance plaza designed to engage with the public realm and create dynamic interactions between performers and the surrounding community.

Mixed Housing emphasizes adaptability, collaboration, and creativity, providing a holistic environment where performers can live, work, and thrive. The project showcases user-focused design and highlights the role architecture can play in enhancing urban artistic ecosystems.
