it all starts with an idea.
Hello! I’m Anthony Skokal, a graduate student at the Illinois Institute of Technology with a passion for designing spaces that enhance everyday life. I’m deeply interested in reimagining neighborhoods one lot at a time, always keeping the bigger picture in mind. The interplay between inner-city connectivity, communal economic growth, and the built environment fascinates me and drives my work.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. During my undergraduate years, I served as the treasurer for the Society of Business Management in Architecture and volunteered regularly with Habitat for Humanity, experiences that strengthened my leadership skills and commitment to community service.
To me, architecture is about creating spaces that bring joy and functionality to daily life. I believe everyone deserves access to well-designed homes, workplaces, schools, and more. Urban-scale architecture, with its complex layers of context and connectivity, challenges me to think critically and solve problems creatively. My projects reflect my dedication to designing spaces that are not only practical but also have a positive, lasting impact on the communities they serve.
This portfolio showcases my academic projects, where I’ve explored innovative solutions for short-term residential living, athletic facilities that support year-round use, and the adaptive reuse of America’s only ruin, to name a few. Each project reflects my commitment to thoughtful problem-solving, creative collaboration, and technical precision.
Beyond showcasing my work, I’ve launched a blog to connect with other architecture students and professionals. This platform is a way to share advice, foster conversations, and explore new ideas in architecture. I cover topics like branding yourself as a student, breaking traditional career paths, and even critiquing restaurants through the lens of architecture and design. My goal is to create a space where students and young professionals can find inspiration, support, and a sense of community while navigating their journeys in architecture.
When I’m not designing or blogging, you can find me at a White Sox game, exploring Chicago’s architecture, playing softball, trying new restaurants, or spending quality time with friends and family.
